RICHARD LAQUER Obituary

Feb. 2, 1947 - Jan. 2, 2019 OKLAHOMA CITY Richard passed away on January 2, 2019, after a short battle with cancer. He was born on Groundhog's Day, February 2, 1947, in Richmond, Virginia, to Dr. Ulric J. Laquer and Christine DeArmond Laquer. Richard grew up near the shore in Cape May County, New Jersey, and attended Swarthmore and Temple Universities. He moved to Oklahoma to pursue graduate studies at the University of Oklahoma, earning a joint JD and MBA. He remained a lifelong Sooner fan. He practiced law in Oklahoma City for almost 40 years, as both a prosecutor and defense attorney. He believed in fairness, and often said that it was important to have a legal system that worked for everybody. One of his proudest accomplishments was the litigation of a class action lawsuit that benefited thousands of Oklahomans who had their driver's licenses unfairly suspended. Richard was married three times, and is survived by his wife Mei Chen Laquer; his daughter Christine Laquer Pacheco in California; and his siblings Thomas Laquer in New Jersey, Brenda Laquer Krinsky in Vermont, and Barbara Laquer Holstlaw in Texas. Richard leaves a legacy of curiosity, a love of travel and design, and his motto, 'nothing in moderation'. A memorial service will be held at Old Trinity of Paseo on Sunday, January 6, at 3pm.
