Harry Stuart Reasoner

June 24, 1947 - June 2, 2018

Harry “Stuart” Reasoner, 70, of Hendersonville passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Pardee Hospital. He was the son of the late Kathleen Carroll and Harry R. Reasoner. He was also preceded in death by wife, Lani Campbell Reasoner; and a sister, Mary Ray Reasoner.

Stuart’s college education was at Swarthmore College near Philadelphia. After that, he was in the military, and then worked in television production, news reporting (Asheville Times and Hendersonville Times-News), and at Seneca Foods.

Stuart was Catholic, and his faith led him to active involvement and leadership in the recovery community, in Henderson County and beyond. He had a lifelong fascination with theology and scripture. As part of the self-education that characterized his approach to the world, Stuart studied ancient Greek and classical Hebrew, obtaining a certificate in expertise in the latter from the University of Jerusalem.

He read avidly, sometimes several books at a time, in a wide variety of arts and sciences. He could discuss European literature and the origins of the universe with equal ease. Stuart had broad and eclectic tastes in music, from the most traditional to the most experimental, with opera being a special favorite. He loved animals, giving the pets closest to him names from Greek mythology.

Survivors include his wife of seven years, Emily Anderson Reasoner; son, Jason Christopher Reasoner and wife Stephanie; two grandchildren, Paityn Rylee and Cole Alexander; four sisters, Ann Bailey, Elizabeth and Jane Reasoner and Ellen Nilsen; a brother, Jon Reasoner; beloved aunt, Lynn Carroll many nieces, nephew and friends.

A memorial mass will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hendersonville (208 7th Avenue West). The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Friends for Life Forever Farm in Lake Toxaway, NC and/or Oxfam, International.
